Throttle position sensor [Archive] - Toyota MR2 Message Board

So I have a question. I have recently swapped out one blue top for another (one without broken pistons) and in the process the tps plug got broken. I though I had it secured on but I noticed the other day that it was unplugged and I decided to leave it that way. My car runs fine. What I would like to know is what is the purpose of this sensor and what difference does it make to have it or not? Thanks Brandon
