4A-GE MK1 Engine IGNITION TIMING PROBLEM

My mr2 1986 has no timing mark on the crank i rebuilt the distributor today then i poped it back in and it started right up but it sounded like a lawn mower so i took it out then got my trusty hanes manual then looked at the ignition timing i lined up the cam dentent with the ledge where the oil filler cap and then lined up my dibby then popped it back in and nuthing just cranks no start at all been working on it for the last 9 hours i cant figure it out.
