- Whilst driving the MR2 last Sunday, the three lights in the dash came on to signify that the battery is not being charged. This points to the alternator. Driving on just battery power for a few days while trying to avoid paying $100 for a new alternator, I cleaned the contacts of the hot wire on the alternator post, cleaned the battery terminals, and tensioned the alternator pulley.
