Amplifier

this is driving me crazy, I just got a 700 watt amplifier and I am trying to hook it up, I tried it in my dads truck with his wire setup and it works, but I run an 8 gauge from the battery with an inline fuse and the 8 gauge ground up to the seat bolts, is this not a good place for a ground? its to the body, why wont it work there is a possibility that the REM from my deck is messed up or something, anyway to bypass that?
