Does Anybody Know About Blow Off Valves?

Ok! There are diffrent kinds of blow off valves. That make the pssssshh sound. On some of them they have have an adjsutable screws to adjust something. When you move the little screw what is it that is being adjusted?. Like the Apex twin chamber blow off valve. Also how do you know that is adjusted properly to your motor application?. Does anybody know?.
