- Need some help from you expernienced folks. I just got my MK1 which the previous owner let sit for 5 years with gas in it. It is a 1988 Supercharged. I drained and replaced the gas and fuel filter before attempting to start. I also changed the oil and oil filter. When trying to start the car, it cranks fine but will not fire. A squirt of starter fluid does make it catch momentarily but then it dies. Doing a little detective work revealed a blown fuse on the EFI circuit. Is it safe to
