Question about my fuel injectors. [Archive] - Toyota MR2 Message Board

I recently purchased a 91 MR2. The previous owner sold it due to a small fire in the engine bay. His downpipe broke while driving and yeaaah. Anyway, onto my question. The guy said the car has 550cc injectors and it was never tuned. Would the reason behind the fire be because the car could be running to rich due to not being tuned properly? Eventually when I replace the downpipe and register the car, is it safe to drive with these large fuel injectors? Or should I be worrying about a fire
