I have an 86 MR2 AW11 with the NA 1.6 16v and a 5 speed manual. It had developed rod knock and it turns out to be a spun bearing on cylinder 1. I have taken the head and oil pan off and removed the pistons. The cylinder walls and pistons look to be in great shape. The crank journals look to be in great shape too other than the one that spun the bearing (although it really doesn
