Is my diff welded? [Archive] - Toyota MR2 Message Board

My 86 MR2 has developed the 5th gear pop out, and now I have a spare trans to swap in. However, The trans was of unknown origin and swapped hands a few times. I have a hunch that someone welded the diff, which would make this difficult to drive across the country in two weeks. Here is a short video showing me spinning the stub axles, and the input shaft. No configuration of neutral, in gear, out of gear, forward, backward, etc allowed me to spin the shafts individually.
